Hello from Sochi where the Olympic Flame is burning proudly!
All the chartered flights have arrived safely from Newark to Sochi, Russia. The security in Newark was high and what I have experienced so far in Sochi, regarding security, has me feeling like I am sealed up in a fortress.
I was prepared for a long flight to sleep, but there was no sleep when your flight is full of all your hockey buddies and the refs. Of course, I needed to chirp.
I wasn’t sure what to expect since everything on the news has been fairly negative regarding Sochi and the accommodations, but I am relieved to say that the toilets at our hotel can flush toilet paper and the running water doesn’t look like pee.
My room is great, it has a view of the Black Sea, and my bed is complete with pillows, and clearly from the photo attached you can see they spent some dollars lighting up this hotel making it look over the top.
I’m exhausted but my excitement to be at the Olympic games has my adrenaline pumping. You get this feeling when you are at the Olympics, and I have been fortunate to have experienced the adrenaline rush from three different perspectives; as an athlete in 98′ & 02′, a spectator in Atlanta 96′ and London 12′, and as an analyst in Vancouver 10′ and now here in Sochi for NBC.
