I have spent twenty-one years sharing my passion by playing the spectacular game of hockey. I have had the opportunity to touch the hearts of millions of fans; I have been excited everyday to help create a smile on so many children’s faces, or just being the simple motivation to others; that it is possible! I like to look back at myself as the player who gave to the sport on and off the ice. I prided myself on being hard working for myself, my teammates, and my family. One of the hardest aspects, but extremely important and rewarding had been to keep that fire burning inside me to win. The fire is still burning inside, but my body has been extinguished; retirement is here.

As I reflect on everything that I experienced during the course of my career, I wondered what I would miss most about my phenomenal journey, and what the journey would miss about me. All the ideas of what the game has meant to me, and what I have meant to the game, led me to believe that there has to be a way, which I can continue to keep giving to the sport that had given me so much. I will stay involved in this great game to keep touching the hearts of all the people that have supported me, and that is a huge priority!

The Aubri Brown Club is a non-profit organization that exists to help families who have lost a child. I am a big supporter of my friends Curtis and Ami Brown who’s daughter Aubri had passed during the night of SIDS in September of 2005.

“In memory of our late daughter we want to help others who have lost a child. Many couples lose a child but not everyone has a support system like we did. The Aubri Brown Club was created to raise money to help families who have lost a child and support them on the road to recovery. After losing our daughter we knew that helping others with the loss of a child would be near and dear to our hearts, and the foundation is our vehicle to do this.” -Curtis Brown

I have chosen Smile Train as a charity to pour my giving support into because my nephew was born with a double cleft palate, and through his experience I have learned so much about this defect. The surgeries that he experienced were incredible, and touching, because now my nephew has a beautiful smile. I want to continue to help children who are born with this defect, to have the opportunity to have a future smile just like my nephew!
